Google releases May security patch update for Pixel and Nexus devices

We wanted to spend time on one key thing that Android P changes for Android phones.

In comparison, on the other side of the fence, Apple had claimed in January itself that 65 percent of compatible iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices were running its latest operating system iOS 11, which became available in September last year. In fact, it's about using all of them less.

The premier feature of the new initiative is Android Dashboard, which provides a snapshot of your daily usage, not unlike the Battery tab in Android Oreo.

Android P OS will try to predict which applications you will use after you are done with the one you are using. "Instead, AI researchers should make it as easy as possible for humans to tell whether they are interacting with another human or with a machine". Then, head to Settings → System → Advanced → System Update.

The slow Android TV is now getting a update. And the reports extend beyond your phone.

Googles new navigation gesture will now see only one home button on the screen, which can be swiped up to go the home screen. It can do that for 60 percent or so.

Among these announcements was a demonstration of the new features with the Google Lens. Think autocorrect, but for entire sentences rather than just a single word.

The list of phones that are eligible for Android P Beta include Sony Xperia XZ2, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, Nokia 7 Plus, Oppo R15 Pro, Vivo X21, and Essential PH-1 and the upcoming OnePlus 6. Google CEO Sundar Pichai even coined an acronym about it: JOMO, or joy (not fear) of missing out. Swiping up from the bottom will bring you your recently opened apps, in addition to five predicted apps you might want to use.

The company showed several examples, including Duplex calling a restaurant to book a table for four, and in each instance, the listener seemed to have no idea it's a machine; in one call, the listener asked the AI, "What's up, man?" and referred to it as "sir".

"To better ensure privacy, Android P restricts access to mic, camera, and all SensorManager sensors from apps that are idle", Google said in a blog post. I already know that I'm going to be horrified when I see my daily phone stats in Android Dashboard, but a visual representation of how much time I'm devoting to my screen might spur me to set some personal limits on my phone. While Spotlight is updated daily to cover a new topic, I appreciate Google's approach with Full Coverage because it will make those aggregated pages more accessible and relevant to readers. The distribution of Android KitKat has also declined to 10.3 percent from 10.5 percent in the previous month.
