The Terriers held strong until the final whistle and the draw meant they secured their Premier League status for another season but the decision to leave out Hazard and Giroud surprised fans, and proved costly to the Blues.

Morata has scored 11 times in 29 games in the Premier League this season.

However, despite recent rumours of a mooted return back to former club Juventus, Chelsea boss Conte has insisted that Morata is staying at the club as he still considers the marksman an important part of the team.

Huddersfield took a shock lead in the 50th minute when a long ball from Australia's Mooy found Laurent Depoitre, who won a challenge with Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero and put the ball in the empty net.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner said: "My English is not good enough to find the right words to describe what the players have done over the whole season".

Chelsea FC instead signed Morata in a club record £60m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid to bolster their attack ahead of the defence of their Premier League crown.

"If you have the passion, desire and spirit you can compete sometimes with top, top quality".

Huddersfield soared into 16th place on 37 points, four clear of 18th-placed Swansea.

Huddersfield meanwhile have a very different incentive for needing to claim the points at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now fifth in the Premier League table, and sit two points behind London neighbours Tottenham, with a further three points behind Liverpool who they defeated last season.

Chelsea head into the match on the back of a four game winning streak, which includes a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over top-4 rivals Liverpool last week.
