Orioles recall Cobb, lose Schoop to oblique strain

15 Abril, 2018

The Orioles had to make a move before the game so starting pitcher Alex Cobb could be officially recalled from Double-A Bowie to start.

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday.

He played in the field in the bottom of the seventh, but the injury worsened on a throw to first, and he was replaced by Engelb Vielma.

Schoop, 26, is batting.230 with one home run in 14 games this season. In the meantime, Tim Beckham should continue to start at second base with Danny Valencia manning the hot corner.

In that time, he has also developed into one of the best in the majors at his position. The Orioles will probably stick with that until Schoop's healthy enough to get back in the lineup. Ruben Tejada and Luis Sardinas are veteran infield options both on the farm, while top prospect Ryan Mountcastle is himself on the minor league DL recovering from a fractured right hand. With the timing of the contract, he was left off the Orioles' season-opening roster in order to further prep for the season.

Schoop strained his right oblique, so he could help out for a little.

Cobb signed with the O's as a free agent on a four-year deal in late March.
