Now you might be thinking that you need to spend $79 on a new battery but for that Apple is offering this battery replacement at an effective price of $29.
Perhaps most importantly, Apple conceded to a crucial fact that "when a chemically aged battery is replaced with a new one", the iPhone returns to a "normal", if not optimal, performance level. But according to the apology from Apple on Thursday, slowing older iPhones is truly because their batteries are "less capable of delivering peak energy loads". The company also faces a legal complaint in France, where so-called "planned obsolesce" is against the law.
APPLE has apologised for secretly slowing down older iPhone models, publishing a letter to customers in order to clear up the "misunderstanding".
Apple is currently battling more than a dozen lawsuits relating to the battery issue.
At least eight lawsuits have been filed in California, New York and Illinois alleging that the company defrauded users by slowing devices down without warning them.
Customers took to social media to express their deep disliking of Apple's step, in addition, to show their discontent with the full year it took Apple to disclose this to the public.
However, as competition increased due to the introduction of other new models form their respective brands, demand began to dwindle down for the iOS smartphones.
"We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down", Apple said in its posting. Such smoothing can cause apps to launch more slowly and otherwise hinder the devices' performance. While the company originally stated the discount would go into effect in late January 2018, it appears they've changed their minds and have opened discounted battery repairs to all as of today.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether it is concerned that the replacement program will hurt sales.
Apple also has fattened its portfolio of accessories and other devices, from its AirPods wireless headphones to a new Apple Watch with cellular data features. The last few generations of iPhone have opted for a lithium-ion battery which, while having many advantages, starts to lose capacity after a few hundred charges.
