The Express point out that Mahrez has bought a property in London - unsurprisingly they label that as 'sending a message' to Arsenal.

The Reds have money to spend following the €160 million sale of a key creative influence to Barcelona.

Liverpool are ready to splash the cash after selling star man Philippe Coutinho for £142m earlier this week.

Liverpool have opened talks over signing Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez despite the Algeria international wanting to join Arsenal.

Serie A giants Roma chased Mahrez in the transfer window last summer, but the Giallorossi were unable to agree a fee with Leicester for his services.

But despite having previously handed in a transfer request and revealed a desire to play in the Champions League, Mahrez is not keen on a move to Liverpool.

Mahrez has long been linked with a move away from Leicester.

Thomas Lemar has been eyed as a potential replacement for the Brazilian.

Speaking at his post-match press conference following the draw at Stamford Bridge, Puel said: 'We can see from today he is enjoying his football, he is happy in playing, in training, he is happy with us and his team-mates. The negotiations will surely take a lot of time.

He is constantly running behind you, and as right back or a centre back, you do not want to run that way the whole game.

Mahrez is rated at around £50m.

"I have no problem with him".

The 26-year-old was named PFA Player of the Year after helping to inspire Leicester to a remarkable Premier League title triumph, but then regressed somewhat as he sought a switch elsewhere.
