It's confirmed then - Yerry Mina will be Barcelona's second signing of the January transfer window after they signed Philippe Coutinho for a record £142m.
Yerry Mina arrives at FC Barcelona to reinforce the central defensive positions.
The 23-year-old Colombia international signed a 5-year contract for the Spanish giants on Thursday for a fee of 11.8 million euros ($14m).
In a statement released by the club, "Yerry Mina now comes to Barca with the opportunity to continue developing as a footballer following his move to Europe".
The board asked Mascherano to stay at the club until Yerry Mina arrived.
Mina made his senior team debut in 2013 for Deportiva Pasto. The Colombian, who is joining from Palmeiras, uses his aerial prowess to impose himself and score goals.
This pushed Barca to tie the defender down a deal, where he would join in the summer, but injuries and potential sales have forced the club to pay extra to bring him in early.
Globo Esporte claims Barcelona have already held meeting with the player's representatives, adding that the official offer could be sent as soon as next week.
But despite the issues the deal has been done with the club shop ready to print his shirts. He missed part of last season because of a serious foot injury with Palmeiras. Barcelona has a nine-point lead over Atletico Madrid at the halfway point.
