LIONEL MESSI has dropped a huge hint he will retire from international football if Argentina flop at the World Cup.

Having been drawn alongside Iceland, Nigeria and Croatia in Group D of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Messi admits says Argentina must improve on their game if they are to challenge for the World Cup title in Russia. Playing in Argentina is an added pressure for this group that is criticized so much.

He also insisted he is happy with Valverde's rotation policy.

Messi will lead the Argentina national side at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia next summer with the Albiceleste looking to go one better than they did in 2014 when they lost in the final to Germany.

"But I think that this time away from the national team has done him good, now he is seeing things in a different light".

Lionel Messi has defended Gonzalo Higuain, claiming the Juventus striker is one of the best in the world and deserves to be in the Argentina squad. "It's going to be very difficult for anyone to continue because we have already been here for a number of years".

He subsequently reversed his decision and will be the linchpin of a talented Argentina side as they aim to win the World Cup next year.

However, he has conceded that his willingness to return to his homeland will depend on the state of the country at the time. The bitterness we feel is because we know what awaits us if we do badly. People want results and if they don't get them, they want to see fresh blood. "There is nothing defined but we did have a conversation".

"Pipa has suffered a lot from criticism and we have talked about it a lot of times", Messi said.

"I have a family and my children come first, and then me".

Danny Rose has been involved in altercations with Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, for a while now and reports in England point to a possible move in the coming year.
