Nevertheless, Hizbullah's move to front-and-center on the US terror watch - with an apparent accompanying and unambiguous identification of Hizbullah as a terrorist organization - comes as part of President Trump's new Iranian strategy of pursuing Tehran's proxies in the region.

Now, the US and Israel see their interests at stake as their proxy militants have been dealt heavy blows amid sweeping advances by Syrian government forces on the battlefield.

Israeli leaders frequently warn Lebanon that the country's army and civilian infrastructure would be overwhelmingly targeted if Hezbollah attacks from civilian areas.

Israel's military believes Hezbollah has between 100,000 and 120,000 short- and medium-range missiles and rockets, as well as several hundred long-range missiles, with the medium-range missiles capable of reaching Tel Aviv. Shukr is a senior military commander inside of Lebanon and a member of Hezbollah's Jihad Council.

It is the first time in a decade that the offering rewards for Hezbollah operatives under its counterterrorism rewards program.
