A report from The Associated Press reveals that the tree was across an alley from the home.
He has told investigators coyotes have been seen in the alley, but they say there's no indication one may have dragged the girl away.
Sherin was left outside for not drinking her milk, according to police documents.
Members of the Emmanuel Bible Chapel are aiding in the search for Sherin, having scoured a field and railroad tracks near the family's home. In spite of the darkness, her father said he was disciplining his child over the milk she refused to drink. When he returned 15 minutes later to check on the girl, she was gone. RPD investigators are actively working with several outside law enforcement agencies and specialized groups. Additionally, Richardson police have used reverse 911 and helicopters in trying to find the toddler.
Anyone with information on Sherin's whereabouts is urged to contact police. They also used search dogs and towed the family's vehicles to look for "any potential evidence", the outlet reports.
Sherin's father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child. He is being held on a $250,000 bond. The police were still searching for Sherin on Monday morning and she was believed to be in grave danger, according to Fox Carolina. Police reportedly weren't alerted to her disappearance until hours later.
Sherin is described as 3-feet tall and 22 pounds with black hair. She was last seen wearing black pajama bottoms, pink flip-flops, and a pink top.
The child was not reported missing until 8 a.m.
Mr Mathews told investigators it was not unusual for the girl to wake up late at night to eat so that her weight would increase, Sgt Perlich said.
