"He wasn't the fight", Rockhold admits. I wanted to see that preparation unfold. It was Perry's second consecutive victory. He's grown bitter, and who can blame him?
Bisping is scheduled to fight George St. Pierre in November. And, truth be told, Rockhold may be no closer to the rematch he desperately wants than he was before Saturday night.
"I'm happy we got the win".
The two-hour UFC FIGHT NIGHT PRELIMS from Pittsburgh on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 p.m. ET will feature a collision between lightweights Tony Martin (12-3) and Canada's Olivier Aubin-Mercier (10-2), Anthony Hamilton (15-7) fights Daniel Spitz (5-1) in a heavyweight tilt, No. 10-ranked middleweight Krzysztof Jotko (19-2) faces No. 14-ranked Uriah Hall (13-8), while bantamweights Luke Sanders (11-1) and Felipe Arantes (18-7-1, 2NC) open the telecast.
This fight against Rockhold was a reckoning for Branch.
"On not being happy about the withdrawal: "(Alves) took away the recognition I was going to get for fighting him". Rockhold looked sluggish. All of the things he used to do better than anyone, well, he just didn't do them quite as well.
It's been a long time coming, but Luke Rockhold is finally back in the winner's column. Rockhold spent the first round getting his bearings. In other featured action, Stefer Rahardian (5-0) battles Sim Bunsrun (3-3) at flyweight, Alain Ngalani (2-3) meets Hideki Sekine (7-1) at heavyweight and Yago Bryan (3-2) takes on Roy Doliguez (6-4) in another flyweight encounter. Rockhold suffered a knee injury while training for a fight against Jacare Souza in November.
After the fight, Rockhold took the opportunity to send a message to St-Pierre. "So it's time to sideline the bulls**t and get back to work". Referee Dan Miragliotta stopped the fight at the 4:05 mark. Rockhold has always been something of an entitled athlete; that's the sort of thing that comes along with growing up with money, good looks and superb athletic traits.
Arantes and Sanders were set to compete on the Fox Sports 1 portion of the preliminary card.
The former UFC middleweight champion had a point to prove in his first fight since losing his belt to Michael Bisping in June 2016 - he only has eyes for that coveted golden strap. Bisping won't fight Rockhold.
