However, while the Infinity Display looks undeniably breathtaking, the reduction of these bezels does complicate matters for Samsung as now it cannot take advantage of more space to add in a large battery, which is why the handset features a 3,000mAh cell. Samsung Electronics has decided to use SLP as the main board that connects major Smartphone parts such as AP (Application Processor), NAND flash memory, and DRAM. Batteries, most especially, haven't changed that much in the past decade or so and the only solution has been to just use larger and larger batteries while also trying to be more efficient in their use. That's exactly what Samsung may be doing with the Galaxy S9, tips Korean media today, referring to "industry sources". The SLP is considered a component that meets the two requirements. Sources told the publication that the Samsung would expand the application of SLP "once the initial introduction phase of SLP passes by".

The SLP circuit board is an advanced form of High Density Interconnect or HDI, which is the present convention.

As Apple and Samsung Electronics, which are leading global Smartphone markets, decided to start using SLP for their upcoming Smartphones, main board manufacturers for Smartphones are set to face catastrophic impact. The iPhone 8's mainboard is also expected to pack SLP tech, reports said.

In particular, the South Korean industry is expected to be hit harder than any other countries.

This indicates that businesses that have not secured semiconductor package technologies are likely to fall behind in the future and back-end industries are now in danger of losing businesses due to Samsung Electronics' decision to use SLP.

Recent Smartphones need to maximize use of space because they need to have many parts with high performance while having batteries with increased capacity that allows Smartphones to be used longer. The Snapdragon variant will stick to HDI, at least initially because Qualcomm's chips have "technical difficulties" with the advanced logic boards. Y-OCTA combines the touch function and the display into a single manufacturing process. This invariably saves precious space in the handset and offers the OEM to utilize it for other things such as a bigger battery.

Samsung's gen-next Galaxy S-series flagship will still not feature an under-display fingerprint scanner!

It is heard that there are actually about 10 companies that are currently supplying HDI to Samsung Electronics.

Samsung Electronics is the number 1 Smartphone manufacturer in the world that annually sells 400 million phones. The Note 9 is over a year away from its launch. The Galaxy S9 will likely be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress next year.
