It's likely no one is more relieved with the result than Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who kept his job after missing an invite to the Champions League for the first time in his 21-year tenure with the club and months of non-stop shouts of "WENGER OUT" from supporters.
The new signing Alexandre Lacazette kicked off the party with his first Arsenal goal within 90 seconds.
Although Wenger admitted that entering the new campaign without Sanchez is a big blow for Arsenal, he pointed out that the striker would not have featured against Leicester even if he had not sustained the injury.
"It is fantastic", Wenger replied when asked about Giroud's willingness to fight for his place.
It was tough on Leicester and, in particular, their own striker Jamie Vardy who scored twice and was as sharp as a tack.
Speaking on Alexis' future, Wenger seemed to suggest he would not leave the club during the current transfer window. Both teams haven't been on the top of their game in the English Premier League but history precedes the Gunners and the Foxes as they play each other to start their Premier League on a good note.
"We are well prepared and ready for a fight, and of course ambitious as well", Arsene Wenger told Arsenal.com.
"I love the man (Giroud) and the player". The Gunners dominated with Monreal and Kolasinac at what used to be the center back position, with right wingback Hector Bellerin on the left and left winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right of a 4-2-4.
Wenger's gamble to field a back three featuring one recognised centre-back collapsed in a display of complete defensive incompetence.
They have not been helped by Petr Cech, who's also looked panic-stricken at times.
It's hard to imagine a start to the Premier League season more exciting than what we just saw.
Now Wenger has revealed the 28-year-old will miss Friday's Premier League clash at home to Leicester as well as the trip to Stoke the following weekend. We want him to be a nuisance.
